“There are shades in every color, sometimes expressing sincerity and chastity, sometimes sensuality or even brutality, sometimes pride or despair… The artist able to benefit from these features is similar to the conductor…”
At the turn of 19th–20th centuries there was a real explosion of creativity in all fields of art, and especially – in Russian ballet. Leon Bakst was a major artist, designer and illustrator; he has made an invaluable contribution to the development of art itself. Bakst is known primarily for its spectacular project for “Les Saisons Russes” by Sergei Diaghilev in Paris and London. His unusual dynamic costumes and decorations, which merged color, light and plastic has had a great influence on the world view of the stage design. His talent helped Bakst to gain prestige among the Symbolists; he has given the sense of freedom to the actors on the stage.
Leon Bakst also designed costumes for the fashionable European studios; his intricate patterns, a riot of colors and a wonderful combination of fabrics impressed even proficient fashion-mongers, as well as members of the aristocratic and royal families.
Creating an interior of the “Bakst” room, we were inspired by the works of the great artist and a genius, who has left behind the “living pictures”, bursting with extravagance and charm. We have tried to express it in the design of the room; a cozy purple chair and bright paintings on the walls add extra coloring to it.
